A Buddhist is someone who:
- Has “Taken Refuge” in the Triple Jewel of the:
- Aspires to virtue by striving to follow the morality of the “Five Precepts” at a minimum and ideally the Bodhisattva Precepts in a Mahayana Buddhist.
Technically, if one has not formally “Taken Refuge” in a Buddhist ceremony with a Buddhist master (ideally a Buddhist monk or nun), then one is not really a Buddhist.
